How to use the Stratigraphy.org Bulletin Board system

Postby Junxuan Fan » March 7th, 2009, 5:25 am

The Bulletin Board system (BBS) is a very powerful tool for communication and interactivition between people living in different place. We provide this function on the ICS website for two purposes: 1) ICS Official Bulletin Board: the communications between the ICS office and experts, e.g., discussion and voting on GSSP, feedback from the experts on ICS decisions; 2) ICS Free Communication: the communications between the experts, e.g., posting your personal opinion on global correlation, searching for collaboration on typical area or discipline. We hope that the Stratigraphy.org BBS will become a very useful tool for stratigraphers from all over the world.

In order to avoid spam and trash messages, we STONGLY suggest you register your personal account. You can simply click on the "Register" button on the right-up corner. Please use your normal name as your username, e.g., Junxuan Fan or Stan Finney, in order to let everyone know who you are while you post a message in the BBS. Please remember to input the confirmation code which is used to protect the BBS from spam and trash messages.

The ICS office will sometimes release some official announcements and news. You can find them in the first branch of the BBS, the ICS Official Bulletin Board. You can also find some discussions and votings here initiated by the ICS office, such as discussions on the Quaternary.

If you want to post your suggestions to ICS office, or initiate some regional or global collaborations, you can use the second branch of the BBS, ICS Free Communication.

:!: Clicking on the "New topic" button, you can post a new message. Clicking on the "Post Reply" button, you can attach your comments to the message originally posted by others.

:!: In order to prevent spams (we got over 10,000 spam posts during the past month), we are using a registration-approval mechanism to keep the website clean! It means that a new user may not be able to post to the ICS website until the administrator approves his/her registration. Once you register, you can simply send me an email (fanjunxuan@gmail.com). I will approve your registration as soon as possible.

The anti-bot check and confirmation code are very important to avoid most of the spam messages sent to the Stratigraphy.org Bulletin Board. If you meet any problem with these, please let us know.

Step 3: Click Submit button.
